On September 30, 2009, an agreement was finalized in federal court between Georgia-Pacific and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to design and construct permanent caps for the two landfills at the Willow Boulevard/A-Site Operable Unit.

The construction work for the Plainwell No. 2 Dam Time-Critical Removal Action begins in accordance with the Administrative Settlement Agreement and Order on Consent, or AOC, signed in June 2009. Read USEPA's fact sheet.

The construction and replanting work associated with the Time-Critical Removal Action in the former Plainwell Impoundment is complete. See a graphical summary of the project. Crews excavated, processed and disposed of more than 91,000 cubic yards of materials from across 17.5 acres (nearly 130,000 cubic yards removed for the entire project). The monitoring and maintenance phase of the project begins.
June 2009
USEPA approves the final Source Investigation at the Former Kalamazoo and Hawthorne Mill Properties Report. This report finds that the former Kalamazoo and Hawthorne Mill properties are not sources of PCBs to the Superfund Site and are therefore no longer associated with the Site. This clears the way for redevelopment of the properties.
